About this Chapter
A lavish lobby gives way to state-of-the-art office spaces inside this landmark building, an outstanding example of the craft-centred Amsterdam School architectural movement whose distinctive canopied windows and expansive waterside location bring a touch of the Riviera to the heart of the Western Canal Belt. Original masonry, ironwork and tiles from Gerrit van Arkel’s 1919 design have been matched with the kind of finish you’d expect from a contemporary five-star hotel. The penthouse boardroom, with its views onto the famous spire of the Westertoren church next door, has to be seen to be believed.
